The Necessity of Prayer

About this book

The Necessity of Prayer is Edward M. Bounds's earnest and searching call to restore prayer to the center of Christian life and spiritual power. Writing from the perspective of a pastor deeply concerned with the spiritual vitality of the church, Bounds argues that prayer is not a secondary discipline but the very life-breath of authentic faith.Through scriptural reflection and pastoral insight, Bounds shows that the strength of the church has always depended upon men and women devoted to prayer. Preaching, organization, and activity may have their place, but without sincere and persistent prayer the spiritual life of both the individual and the church grows weak. For Bounds, prayer is the channel through which divine power enters human life and shapes character, ministry, and spiritual growth.First published in the early twentieth century, this work forms part of Bounds's enduring series of writings on prayer that have influenced generations of Christian readers. The Necessity of Prayer remains a thoughtful and practical reminder that prayer is not merely an obligation but a transforming spiritual discipline that sustains faith and deepens one's relationship with God.
