Orcas Island, Washington. 1918. Lucy Nowhere has spent her whole life feeling like she belongs nowhere. And after eighteen years on the vast estate of the shipbuilder who took her in after she washed ashore in a green canoe as a baby, she is set to leave for college--and to leave behind the questions about where she comes from forever. Then, days before her planned departure, Lucy finds her guardian's severed head on the beach. Rumors swirl that a vengeful spirit and its minions, the sea wolves, have struck again. But Lucy doesn't believe in myths; she knows that the killer is human. When she is unexpectedly named heiress to the estate, she realizes that the answers to the questions she's asked all her life have suddenly become far more dangerous. Those closest to Lucy beg her to escape while she can, but she refuses to flee.
