Becoming Unbreakable: A Big Sister's Guide to Trauma

About this book

Unbreakable. That's a big ask. It's bigger than what we view as healed, and it's beyond mere survival. We deserve and are worthy of more than just relief.Written in blisteringly unflinching prose, Becoming Unbreakable is simultaneously a companion to therapy, a warm-up to deeper healing, and a breathtaking dissection of the traumas that underline our lives--but which don't have to define us.Within an eight-year period, author Dana Killion broke free from an addictive marriage with a husband who harbored a secret life, suffered the loss of both of her parents, and endured the death of her oldest son from fentanyl. Emerging and finding a way through, despite the ossifying effects of grief, Killion transformed her life and became unbreakable. Her process for this becoming is carefully detailed, providing guidance, support, and, crucially, a path forward. In sharing her story and the framework of her metamorphosis, Killion addresses foundational questions that get to the heart of our traumatic responses: Why do some of us become hollow shells of the person we were, even after therapy? How do some of us process our grief more smoothly and carry on? How do we become someone scarred, but not forever broken?Trauma doesn't have to win. The choice is ours.
