The Education Avengers

About this book

A powerful, deeply human portrait of the parents, educators, and innovators who are defying the odds--and the system--to give America's children a real future. Twelve extraordinary people. Twelve completely different origin stories. One unifying outcome. Some were teachers. Some were entrepreneurs. Some were pastors, parents, innovators, business leaders, or unlikely reformers. None set out to become heroes. Yet each confronted a problem that others accepted as inevitable--and chose to do something about it. In The Education Avengers, Jeanne Allen tells the stories of twelve remarkable individuals who transformed the lives of children and communities by refusing to accept the status quo. Their journeys reveal how courage, purpose, persistence, and hope can overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. Through compelling storytelling, Allen explores what happens when ordinary people answer an extraordinary call: to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. More than a book about education, The Education Avengers is a book about leadership, innovation, resilience, and the power of one person to change the trajectory of countless lives. At a time when many Americans feel powerless, these stories remind us that heroes are not born. They are summoned. And each of us has the capacity to answer that call. At its core, it is a story about human flourishing, joy, and purpose.
