Coconuts

About this book

The children's book Coconuts look at a life in a tropical location through the eyes of a young girl. When the Trade Winds blow, Nell wants to do nothing else but to swing in the home-made hammock made by her dad and hung between two coconut trees. But dad warns Nell there is a chance of nuts falling in the brisk breeze and swinging in her hammock might be dangerous. The coconut picker is due to pick the nuts on this day, and Nell must wait for that swing in her hammock. What follows tell of the arrival of the picker and how he gets up the tall trees to harvest the bunches of green coconuts. Nell gets to see how someone with bare feet can climb up the tall tree, she sees the large cutlass the picker is to use to cut the bunches on the tree. Nell gets to use her numbers to count the bunches and even gets to drink the sweet coconut water and eat the soft, yummy jelly inside. Learn what her young life is like and what can be made from coconuts - the publication includes three recipes containing coconut which the readers and their parents or teachers can bake and enjoy!
