My Body Kept Receipts

About this book

What if your body is not betraying you-what if it has been trying to tell your story? For years, Merica Hammond pushed through exhaustion, stress, pain, difficult relationships, and the pressure to keep functioning no matter what. Like so many people, she learned how to survive long before she learned how to feel safe. But the body remembers what the mind tries to move past.My Body Kept Receipts is an honest, trauma-informed journey through the ways chronic stress, childhood adversity, grief, unhealthy relationships, people-pleasing, and survival patterns can quietly shape the nervous system, the body, and the way we move through life.Blending deeply personal storytelling with accessible education and practical healing tools, this book explores why you may feel exhausted even when life looks "fine," why rest can feel uncomfortable, why certain situations trigger powerful reactions, and why your body may continue carrying experiences you thought you had already overcome.Inside, you will find supportive practices involving: - Nervous system awareness and regulation- Breathwork, mindfulness, and gentle movement- Journaling and self-reflection- Boundaries and breaking survival patterns- Rebuilding trust with your body- Self-compassion without forced positivityThis is not a story about achieving perfect healing or pretending the past did not happen. It is about understanding what your body has carried, creating more safety within yourself, and learning how to come back home to who you are beneath the survival responses. This book is for the responsible child who grew into the exhausted adult. For the person who feels guilty resting. For anyone who has wondered, Why do I react this way? Why can't I just move on? Why do I feel unwell when nothing appears to be wrong?Your body may have kept the receipts. But you do not have to keep paying for them forever.
