Pope Leo XIV

About this book

When white smoke curled from the Sistine Chapel chimney on the evening of May 8, 2025, the Catholic Church entered a new era. Robert Francis Prevost - Chicago-born, Augustinian-formed, Peruvian by long ministry, Roman by office - became the first American Pope, taking the name Leo XIV in deliberate echo of Leo XIII's 1891 Rerum Novarum. This is the first English-language theological biography of Pope Leo XIV, prepared in anticipation of the new pope's first major papal document, provisionally reported under the title Magnifica Humanitas. The book is treated throughout as a companion to that anticipated text, not as a commentary on its contents; no verbatim quotation from the document appears anywhere in this volume. This book shows the evolution of a mind that is now speaking to all humanity on a topic of utmost importance.Eleven chapters trace the long road by which a quiet Chicago Augustinian arrived at the Chair of Peter: the Conclave of May 2025; Chicago Origins; an Augustinian Formation; Peru - Chulucanas and Trujillo; Prior General of the Order; the Dicastery for Bishops; the First Year of Pope Leo XIV; Augustinian Anthropology; the Mission and the Listening Church; Technology and the Pope; the Encyclical and the Man.About this edition: a useful, independently fact-checked artifact created by a human publisher using AI within hours of a human deciding it would serve a beneficial human-centered purpose.
