Almost Prayers from the Porch

About this book

For the days when amen will not come cleanly. Some days prayer arrives like a song. Some days it is all ache and no words. And some days the best anyone can manage is a sigh pointed in roughly the right direction.Almost Prayers from the Porch gathers twenty-four short Christian prayers for grief, anger, borrowed belief, and beginning again. Written by Randi Webber in the Texas Hill Country in the long year after the July 4, 2025 Guadalupe River flood, it gives tired people room to bring what they actually have. There are prayers for the empty chair, for the body that remembers at 2 a.m., and for the grief that outlasted the casseroles. There is room for the helpers who arrive with bad jokes, for muddy hands, for accountability, and for joy that shows up without permission. Some prayers end with amen. Others end with a question or simply "Again."Every prayer faces an open page. Pray the words as they are, change them, or write your own almost beside them. Leave the page blank if that is all you have. Blank counts too.Read a prayer before the house wakes up, share one with a friend, or begin a small group with a few honest words. Keep this book on a nightstand or give it to someone grieving when you cannot find words of your own.You do not owe anyone a finished prayer.
