The New Teacher

About this book

A wholesome Christian chapter book for girls ages 8-12, about noticing what others carry, and the mercy of helping carry it alongside them. Readers of Tales from Redbud Orchard will remember Birdie Malone as a frightened orphan-train girl finding her place in a new family. Now grown and newly graduated, Birdie arrives in Willow Bend as its own schoolteacher, and finds fifteen students, each one carrying their own particular story. Charlie Doss is restless and quick-minded, forever finishing his work early and getting into mischief once he has nothing left to do. Ida Mae Sutton is sharp-tongued and guarded, missing school more often than she should - though what Birdie discovers behind that defiance is a girl quietly holding her whole family together while her mother battles illness. As Birdie learns to truly see each child, leaning on letters from home, a visit from her old friend Sam, and a whole town willing to rally around a family in need, she discovers that Willow Bend has as much to teach her as she has to teach it. The New Teacher is a heartwarming Christian chapter book for kids ages 8-12, about compassion, courage, and finding rest for a heavy-laden heart (Matthew 11:28) - the first book in a brand-new series continuing Birdie Malone's story, now grown, and following the students and families of Willow Bend. Book One in the Tales from Willow Bend series, from the author of Tales from Redbud Orchard and Tales from Cedar Creek.
