Called to Serve

About this book

Law enforcement is more than a profession. It is a calling to serve in moments of danger, uncertainty, conflict, loss, and need. Called to Serve: 365 Days of Christian Wisdom for Law Enforcement Officers is a daily devotional created for the men and women entrusted with protecting others while carrying the unique responsibilities of public service. Each day begins with a passage from the Douay-Rheims Bible, American Edition of 1899, followed by a practical Christian reflection written specifically for law-enforcement service. The readings connect Scripture with the everyday challenges officers face: exercising authority responsibly, making difficult decisions, remaining calm under pressure, treating every person with dignity, supporting fellow officers, telling the truth, accepting accountability, and balancing justice with mercy.Throughout the year, the devotional explores Christian virtues essential to honorable service, including faith, courage, integrity, wisdom, discernment, compassion, patience, self-control, justice, humility, perseverance, stewardship, teamwork, peacemaking, servant leadership, truthfulness, responsibility, and dependence on God.Each daily reading includes Scripture, a Reflection, an Action for Today, and a Closing Prayer, making the book suitable for use before a shift, during a quiet break, after a difficult call, or at the end of the day. A special Christmas reading and a year-neutral Easter reflection are also included.Called to Serve does not suggest that faith removes the dangers or hardships of law enforcement. Instead, it offers biblical encouragement for serving faithfully through them. It is a devotional for officers who want their Christian faith to shape not only what they believe, but also how they exercise authority, respond to people in crisis, make decisions, and fulfill their duty.Whether you are a police officer, sheriff's deputy, state trooper, federal law-enforcement professional, corrections professional, law-enforcement leader, recruit, retiree, or part of a law-enforcement family, Called to Serve provides a full year of Scripture-centered encouragement for a life of faith, courage, justice, compassion, and service.
