World Band of the Slum

About this book

Paraguay slum is a place where 25,000 people struggle to survive, and is also a large dump growing at a rate of 1,500 tons per day. Children pick up garbage to subsidize households needs, and the local dropout rate is as high as 40%. Through plain and powerful text and realistic pictures of trash, readers will face the slums' harsh living environment, and will also see the children's struggle against fate with their dreams and hopes. Just like the orchestra's conductor Favi O Chavez said: The world gives us garbage, and we repay it with music.
