She

About this book

"Yea, all things live forever, though at times they sleep and are forgotten."Magic, madness, and murder-and the legend of an undying sorceress-queen who rules over the lost kingdom of Kôr: This is the scarcely believable family history to which Leo Vincey finds himself heir, when he inherits an ancient relic and accompanying letter from his late father. To find out the truth for himself, Leo and his companions set sail for the coast of Africa. There, they come face to face with Ayesha, She-who-must-be-obeyed, a figure veiled in mystery who has waited for centuries for the return of her lost lover....Combining action, adventure, and romance, She has enchanted generations of readers, from Freud and Jung to C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, ever since the runaway success of its initial publication in 1887. About This EditionBased on the "New and Revised" text of 1896, this edition presents Haggard's final vision of his most popular work. Also included is the author's suggested prologue to a dramatized version of She, together with a poem on and review of the same by Andrew Lang, to whom the book is dedicated. The Collected Writings of H. Rider Haggard includes the definitive editions of all the author's fictional works as well as his autobiography, now printed as a uniform series in sixty volumes.
