Praying With Purpose

About this book

Some days your prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling. Other days you get distracted, or don't even try. If that sounds familiar, you are in good company. Praying with Purpose, based on the sermons of Fr Anthony Messeh, is for anyone who finds prayer hard and wants it to become a real, daily meeting with God."Prayer is not just an act we perform," Fr Anthony writes. "It's not about checking a box or repeating the right phrases. Prayer is a home we build, a sacred place where we meet God, not once in a while but every day." He admits openly that he struggles too. Yet every good thing God wants to pour into our lives, He pours through prayer. The first part of the book pictures prayer as a house with different rooms: The family room, for relaxed, heartfelt conversation with God.The living room, for formal, structured prayers. The study, where we meet God through His Word. The dining room, where we pray for others. The bedroom, the place of deepest intimacy, found in liturgical prayer.Together they form the home where we meet God, and when you build it, He will come. The second part offers contemplations on the Lord's Prayer, the words Jesus Himself taught His disciples. Through these reflections you will see how a prayer we often say without paying attention to the words can become a powerful way to experience God's presence and promises.Ideal for personal reading, small groups and youth meetings.
