Just a Memory Away

About this book

A sweet memory comes and she holds it. It dances in her head. She feels the love settling tight on her chest. It warms up her body like hot cocoa. On a stormy night, a girl finds comfort in memories of how her family used to be when she was younger. Even after her life has changed, she is not afraid. She misses Daddy but understands that he is never more than a memory away as long as she holds him in her heart and imagination. Grief from loss or separation is a challenge at any age. Children often have questions but don't have the words to express them or find it difficult to ask adults who are also hurting. This book is intended to help adults and children speak together as they navigate the grieving process. It presents a complex topic from a child's point of view, using accessible and comforting words and images. Beautiful, lyrical writing along with playful illustrations connect with children's experience and sense of imagination. Through them, children can learn how consolation, strength, and courage are found by embracing the continuing sense of connection with loved ones that memories bring.
