Fortress

About this book

In the debut poetry collection, Fortress, Alexis Leigh enters intimate castle of childhood dreams made a blooming reality in the womanhood of her faith, all the while finding God to be her safe-place, high tower, and righteous refuge she can always run to. These poems grapple with the dreams and fears of a child in the forest, to the griefs and beauties of a bride to be, and the tender nuances that come with finding love, both in the spiritual and physical sense. Alexis Leigh was playful in using fantasy as an undertone in various poems that carry the landscape a land charmed by Christ's beautiful presence-and even amidst the darkness, light pierces through the woods of these poems to remind the reader that danger is fleeting and safety, in God, always sure. You can almost feel a coming-of-age emerge in this passionate collection, from strolling near Nana's garden, to getting the first period in a chapel, to unraveling like a ribbon into God's hands, to dreaming about a future husband who will nurture their children with an bountiful experience, meditations on a beautiful and sublime life are infused in every poem as the speaker realizes that the fortress is not just a strong place to abide but a strong person who lives within her-the Lord himself. Designed to be read by lady and lad, themes of wonder, fear, grief, beauty, sacrifice, and safety soak this collection in Agape love that is sure to leave you in awe.
