Cold Comfort

About this book

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown returns with another signature sexy suspense about a screenwriter and an ER nurse trying to find the truth about the mysterious deaths of their spouses while fighting an undeniable--but suspicious--attraction to each other. Oscar award-winning screenplay writer Shafer Graham is in the midst of finalizing a contentious divorce from his wife when he gets informed that she has been in a horrific car accident near his North Carolina mountain home. After succumbing to her injuries in the ER, police detective Dwight Barnes suspects that someone else was in the car with her, and his foremost person of interest is Shafer. Who insists he'd last seen his wife when she'd come to his house that morning unannounced, demanding more money out of their divorce settlement, which became final the very day she was killed. Fifteen months later, everyone in Hollywood is eagerly awaiting Shafer's next script, but he's been struggling with writers block and continues to be harassed by Detective Barnes about the circumstances of his wife's fatal accident. Brett Martin is unknown to Shafer until she shows up at his door and identifies herself as the ER nurse who ultimately called the flat line on his ex-wife. Further, Brett suspects the person in the car with Shafer's ex was her husband, as his body has just been discovered--with a gunshot to the head--some distance away from the site of the car crash. With Barnes determined to implicate both of them in the deaths of their spouses, Shafer and Brett must band together to discover the truth of what actually happened, while fighting their eyebrow-raising, but irresistible attraction.
