Garden City

About this book

Rediscover your purpose in life and your passion for life.In Garden City, join pastor and New York Times bestselling author John Mark Comer as you explore the Bible's vision for work, rest, and living fully human. The mantra for many in our culture is that we work to live. People aim to make as much money as possible, in as little time as possible, with as little effort as possible, so they can get off work and go do something else. What a miserable way to live.No wonder we are so unhappy, grouchy, and angsty. We've lost something central to who we are as humans. In the Bible, the book of Genesis paints a very different picture of what it means to be truly human--we don't work to live; we live to work. From the very first pages of the Bible, human beings were made to rule over and care for the earth. By calling and by commission, humanity was created to do good work. In Garden City, you will explore this biblical vision and discover that, ultimately, what you do matters just as much as who you are. Along the way, you will explore important and practical questions: Does God care where I work? Does he have a clear direction for me? How can I create a rhythm for work and a practice of rest? This book isn't about how to get ahead in your career or spruce up your resume--it's about working, resting, and living a full and satisfying existence. It's about spiritual life invading all of life.
