We Were Supposed to Find This

About this book

Back to the Future meets Casey McQuiston's One Last Stop in a sapphic, time-crossed romance, murder mystery mashup. Set to spend the summer after her high school graduation in small-town Aurora, Everly never expected to meet the fiery-haired and playful Sam, who's obsessed with nineties music and actual cameras. Everly is immediately comforted and charmed by her, but Sam vanishes just as suddenly as she appeared. In her search for Sam, Everly accidentally falls back through a rip in time locals swear is brought about by Harmony's Comet, which only comes around every 30 years. Landing in 1998, where the Backstreet Boys and dial-up internet reign and no one's ever heard of a smartphone, she finally finds Sam, who just so happens to be friends with Everly's teenage mom. Determined to understand time travel with help from her mom and Sam, Everly begins digging into the lore of Harmony's Comet and its link to local disappearances. Because she has to find a way home... right? But soon, Everly exposes dark secrets. Time may be malleable, but not every change is for the better. If Everly isn't careful, she'll risk an altered future-- one without her mother or the girl she's falling for.
