St. Clement Maria Hofbauer

About this book

"St. Clement Maria Hofbauer" is a comprehensive and reverent biographical study of the patron saint of Vienna and a central figure in the Redemptorist Congregation. Written by Rev. John Hofer and translated by Rev. John B. Haas, this work traces the extraordinary life of Clement Hofbauer from his humble beginnings to his eventual status as the "Apostle of Vienna."The narrative provides a detailed look at Hofbauer's tireless missionary work across Europe, particularly his influential years in Warsaw and Vienna during the socio-political upheavals of the Napoleonic era. The book explores his role in revitalizing the Catholic faith, his founding of religious and educational institutions, and his profound impact on the spiritual and intellectual life of the cities he served. Readers will find a deep exploration of his character, his unwavering dedication to the poor, and his success in navigating the restrictions placed upon the Church by the state. This work is an invaluable resource for those interested in hagiography, the history of the Redemptorists, and the historical development of the Church in Central Europe during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
