Pursuit of Happiness

About this book

Doll rules are not for everyone, especially for Daisie Moon. After all, Daisie is not just an ordinary doll, maybe not even a doll at all! When the magical Daisie lands on the shores of Philadelphia in 1789, after falling overboard from a ship, she pretends that she cannot walk, talk, or think, in spite of the fact that she can! So no one will guess that she is more than a doll, she tries to sit still and smile all day long. This soon proves to be impossible for Daisie as she wants to have adventures in America, but still worries what might happen if people find out who she really is?Lady Rules are not for everyone either. At first, Eliza Principle, a girl of twelve years, dreams of attending Dame School to learn embroidery and to follow the strict rules of ladylike behavior. When Betsy Ross brings Daisie to Eliza as a gift, Eliza sees that she could be more popular with Polly Comstock and the older girls at her school if Daisie were at her side! Will Daisie and Eliza have to break the rules to become the girls who they imagine they can be--ones who are responsible and self-reliant, and can read the Latin names of the flowers at Mr. Charles Peale's museum, find foreign countries on the world globe, and ride a horse through town?
