The Stone of Courage

About this book

Eli already knew the story of David and Goliath. He just never expected to be standing in the valley when it happened.Twelve-year-old Eli Castillo and his ten-year-old sister Elena are spending the summer at their grandfather's house - a creaky Victorian stuffed with ancient artifacts, maps in six languages, and more secrets than any kid could explore in a lifetime. But when Abuelo lands in the hospital, the summer takes a sharp turn.Behind a hidden bookcase, the kids and their skeptical neighbor Jordan Park discover a mysterious bronze device called the Pathfinder. The moment Eli touches it, the three of them are pulled backward through time - three thousand years backward - into the Valley of Elah, where a terrified army faces a giant no one will fight.A strange fog creeps along the edges of the valley. Colors fade. Soldiers who were brave yesterday can barely lift their eyes. Something is erasing this moment from memory - and if the kids can't find the ancient relic hidden in this story, the courage that changed history might be lost forever. But here's what Sunday School never told them: standing fifty feet from a nine-foot giant is nothing like hearing about it in a classroom. The Stone of Courage is the first book in the Covenant Keepers series - an action-packed adventure through sacred history for readers ages 8-12. With vivid time travel, an unforgettable trio of heroes, and the kind of danger that makes you hold your breath, this is the series that makes ancient stories feel like they're happening right now.Eleven symbols remain on the Pathfinder. Eleven promises still waiting. The adventure has only just begun.
