The Cross and Beatitudes

About this book

Journey from the Mount of the Beatitudes to the Hill of Calvary in this powerful classic from Blessed Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. The Cross and the Beatitudes brings together two of the most profound moments in Christ's public ministry--the Sermon on the Mount and the Seven Last Words--revealing the deep unity between how Jesus began His mission and how He fulfilled it. With his characteristic insight and passion, Archbishop Sheen explores the themes of love and forgiveness that run throughout Our Lord's teaching and sacrifice. While no strict formal connection ties the Seven Beatitudes to the Seven Last Words, Sheen masterfully shows how Christ's first and final statements are intimately related--His entire ministry, culminating on the Cross, perfectly embodying the meekness, mercy, and poverty He first proclaimed on the mountainside.
