The Grapevine Cross

About this book

The Grapevine Cross: The Story of St Nina of Georgia is an Orthodox children's picture book by Janet Tiitinen about the young girl God used to bring a whole nation to faith. It is perfect for children who think they are too young or too ordinary for God.Can God really use a young girl to bring an entire nation from idol worship to faith in the one true God? St Nina, who lived in the fourth century, was just an ordinary girl. She had no special skills or talents, only a deep love for all and a willingness to obey God, and these were the qualities God used.As a child living in the Holy Land, Nina heard of Georgia and prayed for many years that God would send someone to tell its people about Jesus. One night the Theotokos came to her in a dream, told her that she was the one God had chosen, and gave her a grapevine cross with the promise that she would never leave her.Nina's journey was long and hard, and she met unbelief and suspicion. But she kept trusting God and praying for the people. When a sick child was healed through her prayers, and the people saw her kindness, her care for the sick and her devotion to God, many began to believe. When the king and queen became Christians, Georgia became a Christian country.Like St Nina, children learn that all God wants is a willing heart and an obedient soul. A lovely read for families and Sunday school classes.
