Shadow Jury

About this book

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author James Grippando, legendary Miami trial lawyer Jack Swyteck must convince a jury to bring down a man of unrivaled wealth and power and deliver justice to his client, a courageous young woman who has been silenced for too long. Miami defense lawyer Jack Swyteck's newest client is Iris Canto, a young woman with a tragic past. Her multi-million-dollar lawsuit accuses Perry Rutledge--the president of an international investment bank who splits his time between New York, Palm Beach, and his island estate in the Caribbean--of sexual violence that occurred after she was kidnapped as a teenager and trafficked throughout the islands by a corrupt Venezuelan regime. As the trial unfolds, Jack learns that his client's fate could rest with a woman named Cassie Logan, a down-on-her-luck single mother with a tough past of her own. Cassie has been hired for a shadow jury created by a consulting firm using a supercomputer and advanced algorithms capable of mining huge troves of personal information on millions of Americans to find exact personality and background matches for jurors. Cassie is the perfect match for juror number six, and she and the rest of the shadow jurors paid by Rutledge's team will react to the proceedings via videoconference and inform the defense in real time. It's "jury consulting" in the new world of artificial intelligence. But when the real juror number six goes missing, Cassie and Jack's paths collide in a thrilling conclusion that spans from the Miami courthouse to the most dangerous corners of the Caribbean basin. With courtroom drama, high-stakes action, and an exhilarating, twisty plot that will keep you guessing, Shadow Jury proves once again that James Grippando is a master of the genre.
