About

(Translated by R. Farquharson Sharp.) Read in English by LibriVox Volunteers. A famous social-problem play, in fact being noted as the first of its kind, this play deals with the life of Torvald and Nora Helmer as they spend the Christmas weekend discovering the inner meanings of their marriage. Being a notable work that spoke out about the societal role of women and the role they are assigned to play in a time where such thoughts were unquestioned. Interestingly, the play has also been called "A Doll House;" however, this name may further alude to the state of the main character, Nora, and how she must navigate her predicament not just in the now, but perhaps in the later on. - Summary by Patty Harden For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.
